Nitro Motorsports is set to return to Toyota GR Cup competition this weekend as the series heads to the legendary Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta for the next rounds of the 2026 championship. The team will once again field the #70 Toyota GR86 of Jay Thomas in an alliance program with Copeland Motorsports.
Thomas enters the weekend carrying momentum after securing his first top-ten finish of the season during the most recent round at Circuit of the Americas. Throughout the year, he has steadily climbed the order race after race, continuing to improve as he gains experience in one of North America’s most competitive single-make championships.
Road Atlanta presents a unique challenge for competitors with its 2.54-mile, 12-turn layout. The iconic Braselton, Georgia circuit has long been a favorite among drivers and fans alike and is expected to produce another exciting weekend of racing.
Nitro Motorsports arrives at Road Atlanta following one of its busiest stretches of the season. The team recently competed in the Chicago Region SCCA June Sprints at Road America while simultaneously fielding entries in multiple events across the country.
At Michigan International Speedway, Nitro Motorsports celebrated a double podium in ARCA competition as Jake Bollman and Gavan Boschele earned second and third-place finishes. Meanwhile, at Tri-Cities Raceway, Mia Lovell secured her best-career ARCA Menards Series West result with an impressive third-place finish. Nitro Motorsports drivers Ethan and Jackson Tovo completed events this past weekend with Ethan having success with a podium result at the June Sprints in Formula Ford and earning top honors in the GT2 class on Saturday before closing his weekend with a second-place result on Sunday.
Despite the packed schedule, team owner Nick Tucker is eager to shift focus back to Toyota GR Cup competition.
“It’s been a busy few weeks for everyone at Nitro Motorsports,” explained Team Owner Nick Tucker. “But that’s exactly the kind of challenge our team thrives on. We’ve had success across multiple programs recently, and now we’re excited to get back to GR Cup racing. Jay has continued to make progress every weekend and earning his first top-ten at Circuit of the Americas was a great milestone. We’re looking forward to seeing what we can accomplish together at Road Atlanta.”
The Road Atlanta race weekend will begin Thursday with testing before two official practice sessions on Friday. Saturday’s schedule will feature Qualifying 1 and Race 1, while Sunday will conclude the event with Qualifying 2 and Race 2. Fans can watch all the action live at grcupseries.com/watch-live.
