Nitro Motorsports completed the second event weekend of the Toyota GR Cup North America season this past weekend at Sonoma Raceway, with Jay Thomas representing the team as its sole entry. Utilizing a Technical Alliance with Copeland Motorsports, Thomas was able to move forward in Race One while maintaining his starting position in Race Two.

Thomas qualified 17th for Race One and delivered a composed performance to move forward through the field, ultimately finishing 15th after a clean and consistent drive on the technical Northern California circuit.

In Race Two, Thomas lined up 19th on the grid and maintained position throughout a tightly contested race, bringing the car home in 19th place to secure additional championship points and valuable race mileage.

“Sonoma is one of the most challenging tracks on the calendar, and this weekend was all about continuing to learn and improve,” explained Nitro Motorsports Nick Tucker. “We made progress with the car setup and gathered important data that will help us as we move deeper into the season. Every session is an opportunity to get better, and we are taking those lessons with us to the next round.”

Nitro Motorsports will now turn its focus to the next event on the Toyota GR Cup calendar, scheduled for April 24-26 at Circuit of the Americas. The team will look to build on the experience gained at Sonoma as it prepares for the fast and technical Grand Prix-style circuit in Texas.
